I have just downloaded El Scorcho for Rock Band. Fantastic. The Garbage song is also good. Rock out weekend.

In very important news, “El Scorcho” just got confirmed as one of this week’s new Rock Band DLC songs (along with “Sex TypeThing,” Whatever…). YES! Also, Garbage’s “Why do you love me?” is the third song. This is excellent, because there really aren’t enough songs by women up on the Rock Band list. Also, my friends really want to hear me sing in that seksy Garbage voice. Samuel, when you come see me, we wil play El Scorcho, and it will rock. Oh, and I thought that old Rivers looked a little bored in that El Scorcho video, but then I checked these others. Um, he is like Kevin Bacon’s face, he never changes. Maybe it’s all that angst and enoui he has to deal with? Tough life.

As the title of this post implies, it is now 3:03 am on the 1st of January, 2008. Anyway, I hope all of your New Year’s Eves were fun. Mine rocked, I carted the PS3 and Rock Band to Taylor’s, and we all rocked out. It really can’t be understated what a fantastic group experience can be had with Rock Band. Even lacking a bass guitar, and even considering the malfunctioning main guitar I have (yes, it is not not fantastically built, and Harmonix is gonna get me a nice new one, or else), this game is the most amazing party game I have ever played. Must sleep now, but I think I’ll do some kind of year’s end post, listing awesome gaming stuff from this year. Also, the next Blog Banter will be up soon. Later.

So I just got Unreal Tournament 3, and amusingly (and alarmingly) it is just as PA described: Malcolm is the very image (vocally, I suppose) of some kind of terribly stereotyped black gangsta voice. I guess we can determine from this and Gears of War’s “Coltrain” issues that the people at Epic don’t know any black people, or have never met anyone who is black for even a second, and did all of their “research” using music videos and movies. Still, hearing Malcolm inform us that the next match is “personal” because the aliens invaded the market where he buys his threads… I wonder who writes this stuff? The game is classic UT, and it looks mighty nice on the PS3. Also, wonderfully, enemies still taunt me after they kill me. Will I hear the “You be dead!” insult soon? I can only hope. Also, Rock Band is amazing, Buddy Holly rocks, and so do I. Go Manimals.

My illness is at an end, although I appear to have infected every single one of my friends. Which is not awesome. So Sandy, Taylor, L-con’s, and their families (in Taylor’s case) sorry. More importantly, I have found out that you can’t progress in World Tour mode past the Jetliner phase without playing on Hard… What the hell? What if I’m not super guitar/drums sexy guitar guy who “used to be in a band” like Jason Bateman’s character in Juno? What if I am comfortable playing it on medium? Oh well.

So, I must get back to doing important stuff, Holiday stuff, but I thought I would say hi to people. Hope that your breaks of various varieties are going well. I also hope that all of you will be doing what I am doing what I am doing later today: going to see Aliens versus Predator: Requiem! Hell yeah. This morning, my brothers completely surprised me with the awesome gift of Rock Band. It is amazing and I will be putting pictures up of us playing it, whether they want me to or not. I rock the singing part of Say it Ain’t so by Weezer, in case all of you were wondering. Everything else, not so much of the rocking. Until next time..

As someone who always laughed at Guitar Hero and its carefully manufactured “extremeness” (plus the fact that it is a music/rhythm game), I always figured I would dislike Rock Band. However, the fact that you can make a band now (as opposed to some bullshit head-to-head stuff, which I always lose at) is very attractive. As someone who is always trying to get friends to play games, the idea that me and a friend (or friends) could form some faux-band and rock out different venues definitely interests me. Honestly, their song selection is not the most amazing. I don’t care about a lot of Rock, and they don’t have enough Marcy Playground, Audioslave and White Stripes to appease me… I am selective, or “boring” as friends have called me. If they had expansion packs in the Singstar vein, you know, Rock Band Europop (icky), Rock Band French Hip-Hop, Rock Band Bollywood, Rock Band Irish Rap (which is amazing). That would rule. Probably will never happen though, there are too many of you boring, young middle-aged white guys out there clamoring for more Skynyrd or AC/DC or some shit. I mean, I like those bands, but sometimes I crave some variety, something without beast guitar riffs or really bad hair. Oh well. As a parting shot, I don’t think anyone can argue with me when I say that the works of MC Solaar or the song Kajra re (what can I say, I am very boring) should totally be on Rock band’s list.
