Right now I am trying to work (after I get back from dinner), so I don’t have too much time for gaming. However, I believe that very soon I will be receiving a copy of Professor Layton and The Mysterious Village. I am very excited, as this will allow me to procrastinate without turning on the Xbox or the PS3. It just makes me feel more industrious. Oh, and also, “Death at a Funeral” is soso, funny, strangely backward and offensive at points (then again, it is about a bunch of middle class white British people, so what did I expect), and all in all, kind of slow (in a not great way). Still, Alan Tudyk is funny, and there are a lot of poop jokes!
Finally, I am very excited about the COD4 and Halo 3 map packs. Should be excellent.

So, there are going to be more COD4 maps soon, which I think is absolutely fantastic. Don’t get me wrong, I really love some of those maps (I’d say Downpour, Overgrown and Crash might be my favorites), but after getting snubbed for the Christmas Crash map, I could really use some more fun. Second, I like this article because it lets me point out to you how awesome Keith David is, and why I hope he is a huge part of the next Mass Effect game. Also, go watch The Thing, now. If possible, watch it in the same spirit that Kurt Russel’s character deals with the horror of the thing. JB. It might just make it super-duper awesome, as opposed to super awesome.

So I guess PC owners of COD4 got a snow/Christmas themed version of the “Crash” map some time recently? I really want this, anything to escape those perpetual dusty streets. [thanks to Kotaku for news]

So I spent some of tonight playing splitscreen COD4 with Michel, instead of studying and now I am back to studying. Blecch…. This is the third time I have been through my notes. Maybe two more times? Anyway, he is finally beginning to show some aptitude ofr it, but the knife kills are still occurring with some frequency. He can actually hit me with regularity though.
My real problem here is, why oh why is there no co-op for this game. It would kick so much ass. The Chernobyl mission alone would be fantastic as a co-op effort. Oh well, I’ll just have to settle for intense splitscreen action with les freres at home. I really shouldn’t be complaining, since other shooters are completey forgetting this kind of support these days. Sad. Also, I just did my huge Christmas shopping binge, and I think almost everyone is accounted for. What isn’t accounted for is Oblivion GOTY edition for the PS3, which I purchased because they had some kind of deal with that and another unnamed (present) title. Anyway, it shipped a whil ago, and might get here on the 18th, even though I got fucking Millenium Falcon-speed shipping. Arrg.

So I picked up Call of Duty 4 today, mostly cause I heard the single player was alright, and I wanted to play it split-screen with a friend. I normally don’t like online shooters that are in any way realistic, in fact, I just play CS:S and TF2 these days. Anyway, I played the single player a bit, got annoyed by that TV station shootout, and switched to multiplayer.
Wow, it rocks. Seriously, this is amazing, it’s better than CS:S, by a mile and a half. Sure, there are guys grenade spamming from half a map away, but the gameplay rocks, and the pseudo-RPG elements they’ve thrown in are weirdly compelling.
All-in-all, a good purchase, and once I buy a cheapo $20 controller, some badass splitscreen action, I hope. I should really go to bed, I think.
