Weapons do Have Feelings!

Posted by deckard47 on February 29, 2008

It is late and I don’t get my CS homework, but I just saw this awesome new Bourne Conspiracy movie over at Gametrailers. Basically, if this game is half decent, I’ll probably end up getting it. I’m kind of simple that way.

Space Quest!

Posted by deckard47 on February 26, 2008

I am tired, and I have been reading way to much about Imagined Communities and the Suez Canal Crisis (both of which are my enemies now), but here are two important bits of news. First, a Puzzle Quest Sequel! It will be set in space, and rock a lot. All I need to say really. Next, the exciting but mysterious (to me) Overlord is coming to the PS3. I guess I’ll get it for the Playstation, for the inclusion of the otherwise expensive add-ons. I’m kinda cheap, in weird ways. Now, I must sleep, although I feel like I should be gaming, like I’m not keeping my finger on the gaming pulse or something. You know something is wrong with you when the lack of gaming in your day worries you. Awesome for me!

Why You Wanna Go and Do Me Like That?

Posted by deckard47 on February 22, 2008

I have just downloaded El Scorcho for Rock Band. Fantastic. The Garbage song is also good. Rock out weekend.

More of the Aliens

Posted by deckard47 on February 21, 2008

Kotaku has a bunch of new info about the Aliens FPS, and I have to say, I am more and more excited about this. Most importantly, there is the promise of full, 4-player co-op. Plus, each of those four characters has their own distinct role in the game. This is going to be like Infested, but an FPS. Plus, fancy graphics. Very exciting. This weekend, by the way, is going to be a weekend of working and having fun. Hopefully more of the latter. Rock Band, El Scorcho, and l’alcool. Excellent.

Fable 2 Interests Me

Posted by deckard47 on February 21, 2008

Gametrailers has a three part video preview/interview with Peter Molyneux, and there is some cool stuff here. The instant, fully-implemented co-op is very nice, as is the persistent family thing. The world is beautiful, and they actually let you play as a woman if you want. A novel idea, that. I also got two screenshots of various pretty Fable 2 locales from IGN and put them up in the photo area, so check them out. But really, the videos are the most interesting.

Movie Bliss

Posted by deckard47 on February 20, 2008

Time for a quick break from the vidier games. Two new absolutely awesome trailers just showed up at Apple. One, “Redbelt”, is the story of Chiwetel Ejiofor being a badass and triumphing over assholes (like Tim Allen). I’d like to dedicate the announcement of the other to mon frère âgé, because he will appreciate it the most. It looks even more awesome than Redbelt (is that possible?). It’s called “Les Chansons d’Amour” and it stars Louis Garrel (YES! the sexy drageur from Dans Paris), and a bunch of other French people I don’t know. Oh, and it was directed by Chirstophe Honoré, who directed Dans Paris. It is a musical, set in Paris, about French people being moody and oversexed. I can’t think of anything cooler. What can I say? “Love me less, but love me a long time.”

Zombie Fun

Posted by deckard47 on February 20, 2008

Just a quick note, I have to get back to reading about Michel Foucault and just how much he rocked. There is a preview over at Shacknews of Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock’s (and now Valve’s) new 4 player co-op zombie war game. Basically, it’s like the Dawn of the Dead remake, but you get to be Ving Rhames. Awesome. I wonder, if I’ll be getting this for the PC or the 360. I know that my PC will not enjoy the strain of lots of Source Engine zombies, but I also know that the 360 version might not work as well (plus, I like the mouse and keyboard better). Which would/will you all buy?

The Moving Tale of Clown and a Worm

Posted by deckard47 on February 20, 2008

There’s a new adventure game being made by a German company, and the name of that game is Whispered World. Why should you care, you might ask? As you can see if you go look at the screens section, the game looks incredibly beautiful. Need more reasons? Get this from Kotaku’s description: “The game follows the young clown Sadwick, searching for meaning in his life with his pet worm Spot.” Um, that should do it. Ok, here’s more: the “story promises to mesh fairy-tale whimsy with melancholic undertones to create an epic fantasy story.” I am so intrigued.

Also, I tried out two demos today. The Club and Frontlines: Fuel of War. Frontlines is not terribly interesting. I guess you can have 64 people at once playing? Whatever. Boring. The Club, on the other hand, is kind of cool. It’s like Stuntman, really. You’ll go through the same level over and over, trying to get the best chain of kills. Like I said, I like it. I’ll tell you if it holds up. Also, I’m 1 and a bit disks into Lost Odyssey, and although I like it more than when I started, I am still not sure how good it actually is. To be continued.

Thank You, CD Projekt

Posted by deckard47 on February 18, 2008

Hey, American developers. You want to know how to do it right? Go check out what CD Projekt is doing for The Witcher. Basically, they are releasing much needed updates (like the previous loading update), along with a bunch of extra content. New animations, new character models, new lip-synching, new missions and areas, and a level editor for creating modules. And it’s all free for people who already bought the game. That is classy.

Noooooooo

Posted by deckard47 on February 18, 2008

So Bioware just said that they are not necessarily working on more KOTOR games. Why Bioware, why? You hurt me so much. Also, EA just told us that Mass Effect is going to be a franchise for “a very long time.” Oh no, please no. Three games, that was the plan. Haven’t you learned anything from Die Hard 4? Don’t do it? The second game might not even be good. Allow the Bioware people out from under your demonic heel and allow them to make lots of fun, original games. Oh wait, I really want Mass Effect: Skate All Over Your Face

Put Your Hicks Quote Here, Then Feel Bad When he Dies

Posted by deckard47 on February 18, 2008

Ahah! You thought that Monday morning at 12:16 a.m. would be a slow time of day? NO! In fact, the new Aliens game has a new name: “Aliens: Colonial Marines.” It is being developed by Gearboxed and will be “squad-based.” You know, I love Aliens, and I like Brothers in Arms alright, but if you make a game where I use my marines to supress a group of Aliens so I can sneak around the ruined church and shoot them in the backs… I will eat your souls. Good luck Gearbox (oh, and good luck Obsidian with the RPG. Please make it good).

El Scorcho!

Posted by deckard47 on February 18, 2008

In very important news, “El Scorcho” just got confirmed as one of this week’s new Rock Band DLC songs (along with  “Sex TypeThing,” Whatever…). YES! Also, Garbage’s “Why do you love me?” is the third song. This is excellent, because there really aren’t enough songs by women up on the Rock Band list. Also, my friends really want to hear me sing in that seksy Garbage voice. Samuel, when you come see me, we wil play El Scorcho, and it will rock. Oh, and I thought that old Rivers looked a little bored in that El Scorcho video, but then I checked these others. Um, he is like Kevin Bacon’s face, he never changes. Maybe it’s all that angst and enoui he has to deal with? Tough life.

I Am Happy

Posted by deckard47 on February 13, 2008

This is very important. Stop what you are doing and listen: there will be another KOTOR. I know, you can barely contain your excitement. Best of all? It is being made by Bioware. Now I love Obsidian, and they did some nice things with KOTOR and NWN, but they have proved that they put out really interesting yet unpollished and annoying work. I absolutely loved the plot and characters in KOTOR II, I thought they blew away what the first game had to offer. It was just rushed, is all. All of this means that KOTOR is back in the right hands, and along with Dragon Age and Jade Empire II, Bioware is set to dominate story driven Western RPGs for a long time. Sweet.

Blog Banter: Games That Let You Know the Real Me

Posted by deckard47 on February 12, 2008

So this week, I want to tell you what games to play if you want to get to know me. All of you who want to save your souls, leave, immediately. Just so you know, this is a long, long post. Oopsies.

That’s actually kind of a tough question, I think that I largely fall into a certain stereotype of gamers, I’m a passive, nerdy, RPG-heavy, stay away from the frat boy/child gamers who scare me kind of guy. In fact, choosing this list has been really difficult for me. I started out picking my favorite games ever, and realized that this was not the right list. I really wanted to include all those honorable mentions, you know, the games that wouldn’t tell you exactly who I am, but games that would show you where and how I step out of my comfort zone. In fact, that sounds like a much more interesting and revealing list, so here we go.

I win and lose

Posted by deckard47 on February 11, 2008

Today for the first time in about 5 years I played a Halo game extensively. The last time was in Junior year of High School, I think, and Taylor and I played through the campaign about a3 times on co-op. There was also of course extensive splitscreen multiplayer, I think we played Halo more than we played Goldeneye. Crazy. Anyway, this was a really interesting experience. It made me realize a few things. First, Halo 3 is a much better game than the first one, in many ways. Second, the graphics grow in you, I really appreciate what Bungie did with this game, and it took me a month to see it. Third, I hate Halo 3 multiplayer people. Hate.

Let me explain. First off, the gameplay has evolved in many ways, but they’ve kept what really made me like the first one. This means bonking, mostly, but also the low-gravity “real” physics fealing that always attracted me to the first one. Aside from that, everything is new. There are those little droppy-shields, dual-wielding (which sucked in number 2, by the way), carjacking, new grenades, new maps, new bouncers, lifts and such. The thing that I kept on thinking about was how much better it was than UT3. Which is strange, because the UT series has been a comforting and enjoyable bit of fluff that I have loved from its first release.

This point kind of feeds in with my second point. Despite the fact that the graphics of UT3 are in some ways superior to Halo 3’s, Halo 3 impresses me so much more. The world and graphics of Halo 3 are just so much more tangible than UT3’s. Playing UT3 is like watching something horrid, flashy and completely lacking in substance, like 300. Halo 3, on the other hand, is thorough, fine-tuned (to an amazng degree), and full of more content than you could imagine. Um, like some movie that matches that description. Whatever, the point is, you may not think that the Theater, the Forge, the Photo capabilities, and all of the other multiplayer options matter, but they do. I know that a lot of people on the interwebs are already saying this, but when you realize how good the game looks considering its scope and depth, you realize what an achievement it is. This games is as fun and exciting as COD4, but in a different way. Yes, the single player campaign makes me laugh. I mean, those voice overs from Cortana? What? It’s so… epic. So ostentatiously heavy and epic, and yet all is forgiven when you get a little Team Slayer going.

Third and last point. Those 12 year olds I was playing against? SHUT UP. Now. Don’t ask why, don’t tell me I’m gay ’cause I don’t want to skip Snowbound (which Rocks!), don’t tell everyone else how you like your bitches. Please. Just go choke on the bullshit welling up out of your mouth. Let me play my very fun game in peace, with the other people who have brains. Oh, and the same goes for the 23 year old guys who goad them by killing them and then saying over and over “I killed you.”

I got sidetracked there. Here is what’s important. If you have a 360, go buy Halo 3, friend me on Live, and we’ll kick some ass. But go easy on me.
